I tested my Y-DNA to find out the paternal history of my family. Detailed results of the test itself are available only to project participants (reach out to me if you'd like to become one). But for the rest of those interested in this project, I'd like to share my Y-DNA haplogroup - R1B-M478 R1b1a1a1b R-Y20748 and the results of the migration analysis published on this page.
Can I be sure that my own Y-DNA defines the Chuglazov paternal ancestry all the way into ancient history? Of course not. I know for a fact that Chuglazovs are charitable people who have occasionally adopted children into the family as our own. While I’m not aware of such events in my personal lineage, I would love for any of my Chuglazov relatives to test their own Y-DNA, and share the result with me, hopefully to confirm that we in fact share the same paternal ancestor.
The nevgen.org website says with 100% certainty that this is the Asian subclade Y20750. Among Chuglazov's matches on 37 markers, as you can see most are Tatars, one of which belongs to the Y22195 branch of this subclade.
All the closest matches are with the Tatars:
34/37 with Yusupov from the village of Kamyshly
34/37 with Salakhiev, roots from Bolshiye Shirdany, Zelenodolsk region
33/37 with Valiev, roots from Bolshiye Shirdany, Zelenodolsk region
33/37 with Nuriev, roots from Bolshoe Meretkozino, Kamsko - Ustinsky district
3-4 step difference indicates a likely common ancestor 450-700 years ago.
The branch is very compact, so the available data is sufficient. If you want, you can order BigY-700, and register with YFull with its data. All other analyzes for the Y chromosome do not make much sense.
In the R1b Basal Subclades project, Chuglazov was assigned to group d. R1b-M73 > M478 > Y20751 > BY13053. Should order Big Y-700. The BY13053 branch in the YFull tree is called Y20748, and it is a child of the previously assumed Y20750 branch. These branches are poorly represented in FTDNA and YFull. In YFull, many did not list the countries of origin, but in general it is clear that this is a Central Asian-Turkic subclade. To understand which branch of Chuglazov is next, you need, as indicated, Big Y-700.
Here is the group to which Chuglazov was assigned in the R1b Basal Subclades project - purely to outline the geography:
R-Y20748 BY13053 * BY13064 * Y20748+20 SNPsformed 5500 ybp, TMRCA 2800 ybp
The phylogenetic tree below needs to be translated into English. Path to R1b-Y20750 (parent of Y20753/Y20748 branch) has been highlighted. It shows the major branches originating from R1b-M73 haplogroup, which has originated around 13,300 years ago.
R1b-Y20750:
Teleuts from Bachat river,
Tomsk Tatars,
Karakalpaks,
Kumandins, Nogais,
Mid-Volga and Lithuania Tatars,
Bashkirs
Autosomal DNA tests are aimed at identifying which distinct genetic communities contributed to person's overall genetic composition - not just the Y-DNA paternal line.
This is a good type of test to confirm known and find unknown relatives all across the Family Tree. For the most part the matches found for me were 3rd to 5th cousins that I have no clue of how we are related. But there was a pleasant exception too - where a distant known relative has been found.
